Course Information

This idyllic 13.1 mile course runs through Yamhill Valley which is in the heart of the Willamette Valley, within four American Viticulture Areas (Dundee Hills, Yamhill-Carlton, Chehalem Mountains, and Ribbon Ridge).

The race starts at Stoller Vineyards and Winery, perched on a hill just outside the towns of Lafayette and Dundee. Once out of the gates of Stoller, runners will soon make their way through a small residential section of Lafayette, and then begin a scenic three-mile journey along Abbey Rd. (Can you hear the Beatles playing on your iPod?) The relay transition area is located just beyond the entrance to Abbey Road Farm B&B just after mile 6. From here runners will take a sweeping left onto Hendricks Road and start heading west for two miles.

At mile 8 the course veers left and onto the newly re-routed section of the course for 2012.  The course will stay on Hendricks Road for about another 2/3 of a mile before turning left onto NE Mineral Springs Road.  Runners will run south on Mineral Springs Road, a beautiful and quiet part of the course.  Just after Mile 10, runners will turn right on NE Jernstedt Road where they will begin the 1.6 mile gravel section of the course.  A right turn off of Jernstedt and onto NE Old McMinnville Hwy points you back north and towards the town of Carlton.  Pass one last aid station just before the pavement resumes.  A turn left back onto Hendricks and you are heading to the finish!

The course has some rolling hills, typical for wine country, with a minimum elevation of 171 ft. and a maximum of 302 ft. The course starts at 220 feet elevation and finishes at 187 feet for a net elevation gain/loss of minus 33 feet. There are seven aid stations and medical support on course.

Time Limitations

To enter the half marathon you must be able to finish the course in 3 hours and 30 minutes and keep a 16:00/mile pace or better. Casual walkers are not permitted in the half marathon due to this time limit. If you cannot keep the required pace on course, you will not be guaranteed course supervision by law enforcement and volunteers. Relay participants have must be able to finish their leg in 1 hour 50 minutes or less.

Race Rules, Safety & Courtesy

Please line up at the start according to your pace. Elite runners will have a corral at the front, runners will then line up by mile pace with 6 to 7 minute milers after the Elite corral, followed by 7 to 8 minute milers, etc... to the 14 to 15 minute or more milers in the back.

ALWAYS stay inside of the cones on the roadways.  Straying outside of the defined cone line is dangerous and not allowed.

No roller blades, skateboards, animals or bicycles on course without permission. Baby strollers designed for runners are permitted but must begin at the back of the starting line.

Portable music with headphones are allowed but must be kept at low volume so runners can hear approaching traffic and verbal instructions from law enforcement and volunteers.

Please obey law enforcement officers and volunteers at all times! They are positioned on course for your safety.

Thanks for your cooperation!

Aid Stations

Seven aid stations will be placed on-course between the start and finish areas. These stations are hosted by various non-profits, school teams and other groups. They are placed on-course at key locations and intervals approximately 1.5 miles apart.

Water will be offered at each aid station and orange flavored Accelerade Advanced Sports Drink will be provided at every other aid station. Gels and/or energy bars will not be placed at aid stations due to environmental concerns. Bring your own if you wish and please discard wrappers in trash receptacles at aid stations, or put them in your pocket… not alongside the road. Thank you.

Please show your appreciation as you pass each aid station and obey the law officers and course monitors who are working hard to keep you safe and happy.

Post-Race Refueling Tent

After completing your 13.1 mile journey through wine country and receiving your finisher’s medal, you’ll pass through the Refueling Tent where you’ll be treated to fruit punch flavored Endurox R4 Recovery Drink, as well as a variety of tasty treats.  Endurox R4 Recovery Drink is proven to reduce muscle damage by 50%, increase glycogen replenishment by 200%, increase protein synthesis by 400%, and increase both muscle function and endurance in a subsequent workout.  The tasty treats are proven to fill your hungry stomach after a great run.
